Describe a time you have used fractions in real life.

Our new student Bob needs some help with long division.  Can you describe the 4 steps to solving a long division problem to him?

Solve this math problem, and tell how you found your answer:

A Wicomico River tour has 4 boats.  Each boat has room for 24 people.  Are there enough boats to take 95 people on a tour?  Explain why or why not.

Some of the fourth graders have not memorized their basic multiplication facts yet.  What are some strategies they can use to help them to remember their facts?  Do you have any tricks for helping someone memorize facts?  Here’s an example: 8 x 8 went to the store to buy a Nintendo 64.  Just say the rhyme in your head if you’re not sure what 8 x 8 is equal to!  Share any rhymes you can think of to help your classmates!

Suppose a new student, Bob, arrived at Westside and didn’t know anything about range, median, or mode.  Pick one of those words and describe what it means.  Give an example to help explain range, median, or mode to Bob.
